With the increasing use of generative AI throughout many industries, including creative fields, clarity is important.
I value the creative human and artistic process that is writing and editing.
I do not use AI in my manuscript editing processes and will not upload any of my clients’ work into AI, generative or otherwise.
I use some programs and tools for basic manuscript clean-up, but these do not include AI and are rule-based programming used to check for consistency, spelling and other basic errors. These tools resemble traditional spellchecker technologies and do not replace the human editor, but rather enhance what I can offer. I regularly review the tools and platforms used in the course of my editing work to ensure that any software or platforms used align with my stance on AI usage.
I will not edit manuscripts or other documents that have been generated in part or whole by generative AI. Authors are requested to disclose if and how they have used AI from the outset of the editing relationship. If AI usage is discovered partway through the project, the project will be terminated, and my usual cancellation policies will apply.
