Hello, lovely reader, and thank you for making your way back to my corner of the internet. In this newsletter you’ll find: updates on my writing, editing, and what I’ve been up to since I last wrote.
Writing
I’ve been continuing to catch up regularly with my local group of writers. I’ve been swapping some chapters with some critique partners which definitely helps keep me accountable to working on my books.
I’ve just about wrapped up the first draft of Project Cruise (very exciting!) and have started work on a new project, which I will talk more about in the ‘studying’ section of this newsletter… but it’s always a little bit odd finding my feet in a new project.

As a part of my writing practice, I’ve begun going along to some online writing sessions hosted by Writers Victoria. It’s another way to help form rhythms and habits in my life that help me show up and create.
Surrounding myself with other creatives who are working on their own projects is definitely inspiring, and something I’d highly recommend to other writers who are feeling a bit isolated and uninspired!
Editing
As always, the projects I work on as an editor bring me a huge sense of satisfaction. It’s always a delight to work with passionate authors who are keen to collaborate to make their work the best it can be.
Lately, these are some of the genres I’ve been working on:
- YA fantasy
- Romantic Thriller
- Sci-fi historical reimagining
- Assorted children’s picture books
Congratulations to several authors who’ve recently published. Here’s a small selection of projects I’ve had the pleasure of working on at Shawline Publishing:

Studying
This is my final semester of my Masters degree! The break between semesters went by far too quickly, especially given I worked some extra hours during that time. But I did take a little break which was very much needed.
I’m excited to graduate, but trying not to wish away this season too quickly. My brain feels like it’s filling up and I’ve learned so much to better equip me in this career long-term. I’m grateful for the support and encouragement of loved ones who help get me through semester.
Part of my Masters involves creating an extended creative project. That’s the ‘new’ one I mentioned earlier – though the idea has been floating around my mind since 2020 or so.
Resting
I took a few days off over the break and the Mister and I had a few days away to rest and recharge. Unfortunately, we did have some car trouble but we made the most of the time away regardless.
One of the highlights of my time off was going to Melbourne Museum’s ‘Nocturnal‘ sessions, which was fantastic! An 18 plus event, the museum stays open late and has food and drinks, a DJ, and access to special talks.
For us, the highlight was the ‘Victoria the T.Rex’ exhibition. She’s absolutely incredible and it was lovely to take in all the museum sights with less crowds, at our own pace. If you get the chance to visit her, it’s well worth it.

In all honestly, it was a quieter reading month for me but I did check out: So This Is Ever After by F.T. Lukens, which is a great, light read if you’re a fan of YA cosy fantasy.
Cat Corner
Winter means the cats are usually to be found in a patch of sunshine, under the heater, or in Luna’s case – snuggled in some blankets on the couch.
Winter is nearly over, and I’m definitely ready for the spring!
