Wondering if your book makes sense? Stuck rewriting and feeling like you’re getting nowhere?
Writing a book isn’t easy, and it can be easy to be discouraged by the time revision time rolls around. Sometimes we all need a little help making sure our words are sharp.
I’m here to help.
I offer a range of manuscript editing services, including developmental or structural editing. In a developmental edit, I’ll focus on your story’s big picture, character arcs, world-building and much more. It’s best for writers with a completed manuscript, who are seeking clarity around the plot, characters, and structure of the book as a whole.
I also offer line editing, focusing on grammar and sentence structure. This is best for writers who have a completed manuscript and are looking for someone to help ensure their prose is on point. We’ll look at things like word choice, dialogue, and clarity.
Proofreading is the nitty-gritty editing that occurs before publication. This is usually the final pass and focuses on spelling, grammar, and other typos.
Why me?
In my five years as an editor I’ve worked across a range of projects: professional applications, website copy, and author manuscripts. This has given me a diversity of experience.
These days, I focus primarily on book editing, offering my services to both indie authors and publishing houses.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with a range of authors across both fiction and non-fiction genres, but I have a special place in my heart for speculative fiction and romance.
I’m experienced and committed to ongoing professional development to offer clients my best. I have a Master of Creative Writing, Publishing, and Editing from The University of Melbourne, and I’m an Associate Member of IPed (Institute of Professional Editors, Victoria).
You can be sure your book is in good hands.

What’s the editing process?
I currently offer a free 1000-word sample edit on manuscripts. This sample will be selected by me from your full manuscript to give you insight into the value of my services. Try before you buy!
If you choose to book in an editing service the next steps are:
- I read your document.
- I will suggest changes to the document using track changes in Word.
- I will supply you with the edited version and a detailed editing summary report.
- We can then have a one-on-one discussion regarding any questions you may have!
This one-on-one service is personalised, you have the opportunity to ask questions, and discuss your project with me via email, phone call, or video chat – whichever you’re most comfortable with!
If you’d like more rounds of editing, or to book in for more than one type of editing (eg. developmental, and then line editing) that can be arranged – all my packages can be tailored to your unique project and what it needs.
How much does it cost?
Pricing as of October 2024
Because of the personalised nature of my editing services, my quote can only be finalised once I’ve seen your manuscript.
But a rough guide is $75 per hour. This rate is based on editing packages that include in-line document editing, a detailed editing summary report, a one-on-one thirty-minute meeting and email correspondence. The full cost of your project will be quoted based on an assessment of the level of editing required, and the length of the book.
All clients are required to sign a contract and pay a minimum non-refundable deposit before we begin work. This ensures your spot on my schedule is held, as editing spots are in demand and I book out in advance. Your contract includes a confidentiality clause, to protect your intellectual property.
Editing is an investment, but that doesn’t mean it has to be inaccessible. Payment plans are available on all packages.
These rates are based on the IPEd fair rates of pay for editors, which can be seen here.
